Project Overview

AGR Renewables has strengthened its position in the UK clean energy sector through the acquisition of a large-scale solar and battery energy storage portfolio from Cambridge Power. The deal represents a significant step forward in the company’s growth strategy and highlights the increasing importance of integrated renewable and storage solutions in achieving national energy goals.

Supporting the UK Energy Transition

The project reflects a broader industry shift toward co-located solar and storage developments, which are increasingly viewed as essential to maintaining a reliable and flexible energy system. By pairing solar generation with battery storage, AGR can store excess energy and release it during periods of high demand, reducing strain on the grid and improving overall efficiency. This approach aligns with the UK’s long-term decarbonisation targets and the growing need for flexible infrastructure to support renewable energy expansion.

Once operational, the solar installation is expected to export up to 49.9MW of renewable electricity to the UK grid, while the combined battery systems will provide around 100MW of grid balancing capacity. Together, this integrated model enhances grid stability and supports the effective integration of intermittent renewable energy sources.
“The acquisition of Eaton Socon marks a significant milestone in AGR’s growth story. The assets complement AGR’s existing pipeline and further consolidate the company’s position as one of the fastest growing renewable energy developers in the country. Together with our shareholders, AGR is planning to deliver the projects in line with its target of delivering 500MW of operational solar and 1GW of BESS assets by end of 2026.”

Environmental & Community Benefits

Beyond energy generation, the project is designed to deliver measurable environmental and community benefits. The solar installation is expected to achieve over 100% net biodiversity gain, while the co-located battery system is projected to deliver a 71% gain. The development is also anticipated to create local employment opportunities and provide economic support to the surrounding community during both construction and operational phases.

This acquisition marks a key milestone in AGR Renewables’ expansion strategy, with the company targeting 500MW of operational solar capacity and 1GW of battery storage by the end of 2026 - positioning itself as a major player in the UK renewable energy market. It also reflects continued investor confidence in renewable energy and battery storage, which are becoming central to the UK’s transition toward a low-carbon energy system.

AGR Renewables’ acquisition of the Eaton Socon solar and BESS portfolio highlights the growing importance of hybrid renewable energy projects in delivering clean, reliable power. By combining solar generation with energy storage, the project supports decarbonisation while enhancing grid resilience and long-term energy security, playing a key role in shaping the UK’s future energy landscape.
