Project Overview

The projects, located across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, were successfully awarded a strike price of £65.23/MWh under the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 7 (AR7). This result highlights the strong competitiveness of the portfolio and its clear alignment with national priorities to accelerate the rollout of low-carbon electricity generation at scale.

Together, these projects will make a meaningful contribution to strengthening the UK’s energy system. By supplying domestically generated renewable power, they enhance energy security and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. They also support the UK Government’s wider decarbonisation goals, helping to meet legally binding net-zero targets while expanding clean energy capacity.

These contract awards mark the culmination of several years of coordinated development by AGR, covering every stage of the project lifecycle. This has included land origination and assembly, securing planning consents, negotiating and finalising grid connections, and advancing procurement strategies in preparation for construction. Throughout this process, AGR has worked in close partnership with its long-term investment partner, Railpen, whose continued support has been instrumental in progressing the portfolio to this key milestone. Together, these efforts have positioned the projects for successful delivery and long-term contribution to the UK’s evolving energy system.

Development & Benefits

With CfDs now secured, the projects benefit from long-term revenue certainty, significantly reducing exposure to wholesale electricity price fluctuations. As a result, all four solar projects are now transitioning into the early stages of construction, including detailed design, contractor mobilisation, and supply chain engagement. This next phase will be key to ensuring timely delivery and operational readiness in line with CfD timelines.

At a time when energy markets have remained volatile, the fixed-price structure provided through the Contracts for Difference mechanism ensures long-term price stability for consumers. This not only underpins investor confidence but also reinforces the role of large-scale solar in delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for the future.

"The CfD result marks another major milestone in the development of our UK solar portfolio, allowing us to confidently continue our construction and growth ambitions. We are proud to contribute to strengthening the UK’s energy security while delivering high-quality sustainable infrastructure projects in partnership with Railpen"
