The Bramley BESS project is AGR’s inaugural standalone battery energy storage project and forms a cornerstone of a wider BESS portfolio that AGR is currently developing. It represents an important milestone in the company’s expansion into large-scale energy storage and its broader strategy to support the UK’s transition to a more flexible and low-carbon energy system.
Once operational, the facility will store surplus renewable energy from the grid during periods of high generation and release it when demand is higher or supply is constrained. In doing so, it will also provide essential grid stability services, helping to balance frequency and support the reliable operation of the electricity network.
In addition, the Bramley BESS project will contribute to the long-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by displacing the need for conventional gas-fired peaking plants that currently provide similar balancing services. This transition supports the UK’s wider decarbonisation objectives and reinforces the role of battery storage in enabling a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
